Our Aims

Who can we help

How did we start

  • We aim to improve the quality of life and empower disabled people to live it more fully
  • We aim to provide the little bit of help which can make a goal achieveable
  • We aim to be there to pick up and support those who have fallen between the cracks of the system
  • We can help anyone who is disabled, mentally, physically or age-related
  • We can help parents of disabled children towards getting special toys and equipment to assist them in bringing up their child
  • We can help with a little bit of funding to make visits and holidays achievable for disabled people
  • We have limited funds and so prioritise individuals from Leeds and if funds permit West Yorkshire and beyond
  • If we still have funds, we also help some local support groups and activities for the disabled

Annie Guthrie spent some of her life as a soldier's wife in India. She and her husband moved back to England and came to live in Leeds. There they had a son, Michael, who in his early teenage years contracted Polio. He spent two years in an Iron Lung and several more in hospital but eventually returned home severely disabled. She and her husband cared for him and arranged for him to live independently but with help from them. On the death of her husband, and as she herself was ageing, she arranged for a Trust Fund to be established, partly to continue her care for her son but also to care for other disbled people. Her legacy enables us today to help people, disabled both mentally and physically, as she would have done.
