Annie Guthrie spent some of her life as a soldier's wife in India. She and her husband moved back to England and came to live in Leeds. There they had a son, Michael, who in his early teenage years contracted Polio. He spent two years in an Iron Lung and several more in hospital but eventually returned home severely disabled. She and her husband cared for him and arranged for him to live independently but with help from them. On the death of her husband, and as she herself was ageing, she arranged for a Trust Fund to be established, partly to continue her care for her son but also to care for other disbled people. Her legacy enables us today to help people, disabled both mentally and physically, as she would have done. |
